Australians has lobbied for phasing out cages for egg laying hens. This was confirmed by the Animal Health Australia after hundreds of thousands submitted their petition.
The 15-year old poultry guideline is due for amendment and now is the proper time to know the side of the people. Around 11 million egg-laying hens are caged in Australia, living in a bery tight space to no movement.
Egg Farmers of Australia reacted to the suggestion, saying that it will lead to massive loss of revenue for every poultry farm. Organization also said that 56% of poultry farms cannot just phase out caged hens.
Further consultations will be laid down for each side to defend their opinions.
